Is a College Degree Worth the Cost Anymore?

My friends over at GHP Investment Advisors are killing it with their newsletters lately.  I highly encourage you to read the essay by Reed McCoy in the link below.

He has so much good information that I don’t want to junk it up with my stuff, so just a few thoughts from me on this today.

  1. It’s not okay to let your kids pick whatever school they want, regardless of cost, unless you can afford to pay for it without compromising your own retirement savings and financial stability.
  2. A college degree still helps people command higher wages, but AI (I know we are SO sick of hearing about it) may change that in the future. The gap is already narrowing.
  3. This is a huge investment, so help your child make it wisely. A combination of community college + later years at a traditional school may be a different experience than your 1990’s dorm-room ragers, but it’s not about recreating your youth.  It’s about building a career path without saddling your kids (or you) with crippling debt.

Okay, take it away, Reed!
