Windows to Your Soul?

Brrr, feeling chilly INSIDE of your house?  This week I’m excited to offer a little education on a home improvement investment many think about but feel too intimidated to make:  new windows.

Yes, it feels like an big ticket item, but with the right guidance, this may be a worthwhile investment in your comfort and home equity.  Nationally, new windows can recoup 60% – 75% of their cost in resale value (your mileage may vary based on region and age of the windows when you go to sell).

To give us more information, I welcome Erika Vieira of Well Defined Window.

Kristi:  In the never-ending list of home improvements, why should people prioritize replacing windows?

Erika:  When windows are old or damaged, they quietly drain your home’s efficiency day after day, sending heating and cooling dollars (pardon the pun) straight out the window. New windows help seal those losses, boosting energy performance with an added benefit of dramatically refreshing the look and feel of your home inside and out.

Kristi:  Window pricing varies widely.  Is the quality that different, or are people paying extra for certain brand names when the product isn’t all that much better?

Erika: Window prices are all over the place because some of it is real—materials, glass, and how they’re built—and some of it is paying extra for a big name. Most of my homeowners end up happiest in that solid middle: a well-made, efficient window with a good warranty, not the cheapest thing and not the most hyped brand.

Kristi: What are the ancillary projects that homeowners should prepare for when replacing windows?  i.e. windowsill repair/repainting, siding repair, etc.?

Erika:  Most of the time, it’s nothing big at all. The easiest way to know for sure is to book a quick consultation with me and have her put eyes on your window and/or door project!

Thanks, Erika, for answering my questions!
