Your home may be your largest investment. Unlike your 401(k), it needs more active involvement to grow in value over time. Not to mention be enjoyable as your shelter and sanctuary. If you are like me (not a big do-it-yourselfer), here is a list of some easy jobs for spring.
- Refresh your front door. It’s the first thing people see approaching your house. Painting the front door is a low-risk way to perk up your entrance. Don’t like how it turns out? Paint it with something different!
- Switch out your house numbers. I have been thinking about this for the 17 years of living in my house. This is the year! Something easy to see from the street, stylish, yet in keeping with your architecture. Fun to shop for, easy to install.
- Add a shed. If you have the space, a shed painted in a fun color that compliments your house adds storage and a nice focal point when you are looking out into your yard. Go crazy and add flower boxes or pots around your shed for extra impact.
- Clean windows and gutters. This is something I highly recommend outsourcing for your safety. Nothing makes a house brighter than clean windows. If I won the lottery, I’d have window cleaners to my house every 2 weeks.
- Trim out dead branches from trees and shrubs. Not the tall trees – again, hire that out. Cleaning out dull dead plan material brings a feeling of immediate gratification and makes your landscaping fresh and decluttered. Yes, decluttering outside is just as important as indoors.
Now, get to work!
