Remember the excitement of back-to-school season? New clothes, Trapper Keepers, and the chance to break out of your previous nerd persona? It never really worked for me, but there was always the dream.
Why not recreate that feeling as an adult? They say September is the Other New Year – a chance to dust of those resolutions from January and enjoy cooler weather with new momentum.
Here are a few ideas to recapture that fall magic without the locker-room bullying.
- Take a Class or Workshop: Enroll in a community college course, art/craft workshop, cooking class, dance lesson, or even a professional development seminar. My goal: Take a drawing class. I want to up my doodling game.
- Set Simple Fall Goals: Make a list of goals to organize, declutter, try new recipes, or master a skill (like meal prepping or meditation). My plan: Declutter – Goodwill, here I come!
- Start a New Hobby: Painting, pottery, pickleball, or other pursuits that don’t start with P. My dream: Learn Mahjongg – I am a middle aged woman, after all.
- Try a Fitness Challenge or New Routine: My hope: To get rid of this left knee pain and start lifting heavier weights – see above – middle aged women, bone strength, heavy weights.
- Rearrange a room: Get a fresh perspective by moving around furniture and art. My vision: Where do I even start? Stay tuned.
- Create a Reading List: Make a fall reading challenge—pick several books to finish by winter. Part of the challenge with reading is decisions fatigue. My method: Read all the great books I got for my birthday.
- Host a get-together with neighbors or friends you haven’t seen for a while.
Don’t let your relationships and good China gather dust! Get out the crock pot and board games! My theme: Gumbo night!
Ready, set, Fall!
