But Enough About You, Let’s Talk About Me for a Minute

Recently I’ve been telling you about the part of my business where I go to groups (employers, conferences) and meet with people for short one-on-one financial planning sessions.  Here are a few success stories that I am proud of having achieved so far this year.

A woman who would like to retire this year was invested in 88% international stocks in her company retirement plan.  44% was in Emerging Markets stock.  That is too aggressive for even the riskiest 20-year old investor.  We changed her portfolio to a moderate mix of stocks and bonds to better position her for retirement.

A young man asked me if he should take a loan from his company retirement account to put down money on a new house.  I discouraged him from this, telling him that his grandparents didn’t get the opportunity to raid their pension funds to buy a house.  He needs to save up like they did.  He agreed.  Retirement funds saved!

A woman in her mid-thirties had signed up for a managed investment service through her 401(k) provider.  In looking at her investment mix, I noticed that it was very conservative for her age.  I asked if she answered the risk tolerance questionnaire in a way that discouraged the money manager from a growth portfolio.  She said she was not afraid of risk, but may have misunderstood some of the online questions.  She planned to call the investment manager back and ask if she could be more positioned for growth.

These are just some examples of how your group may benefit from having a quick meeting with a Certified Financial Planner ™ who is not out to sell products or services.  If you are interested, please call or e-mail me at 303-324-0014 or kristi@sullivanfinancialplanning.com.
